Removal of Metals by Biomass Derived Adsorbent in Its Granular and Powdered Forms: Adsorption Capacity and Kinetics Analysis

Among the various existing metals, zinc and copper are predominant metals in several effluents from industries such as electroplating, plastics production mining. Technical methods have been applied treatment of containing including chemical removal, adsorption, ion exchange, membrane technologies electrochemistry. However, it is necessary to develop that minimize costs increase quality while reducing residual sludge generation. Adsorption using biological materials stands out for removing a low-cost technique high efficiency. Thus, this study evaluated metal adsorption an adsorbent granular powdered anaerobic sludge, followed by kinetic analysis, aiming at new alternative wastewater treatment. Evaluation process biomass resulted maximum removals 72.9% 62.7% zinc, respectively, 92.8% 85.0% copper, respectively. Analyzing models, pseudo-second-order model fitted data better. Applying kinetics other studies literature removal adsorbents, was most representative model. In context, modeling allowed determination solute rate, estimating mechanism.
